Every Now and Then
Portraits are an artistic representation of a person in a well composed way. In Portraits we often see the person looking straight into the camera, having eye contact with the photographer.
This series of Polaroids is based on capturing the portraits of various DJs and musicians both before and after their time on stage. The aim of this project is to see traces of their performances upon them.
DJs or musicians are not only creating sets or sound in order to please their audience, but what they do is also a performative process. During this process, whilst audience can change their position in the place, DJs and musicians have to focus on their performance to keep the connection alive in between the sound and the audience. This connection has to maintain. This act of creating can be seen in their facial expression. Excitement, happiness, and tension can be read upon their face right before their performances. The exhausting process of being on the stage and keeping the connection between themselves, sound and audience turns into a relaxation, on their drained faces after their performance, as we all see every now and then.
